STUDIO SALP
“Many pieces compose the whole”
Having lived between continents, Paula Sousa seeks to understand and express the phenomena of social and geographical occupation in all their diverse contrasts. She explores the interaction between different types of earth and their colors, highlighting the dynamic ways in which cultures intertwine.
Paula Sousa’s works can be considered rational, employing a logical approach to create dialogues with different landscapes, art, and utility. She speaks of clay vessels as having both an interior and an exterior, the body as a container; vessels hold an inner world and embody a balance between the preservation of traditions and techniques and the spirit of experimentation.
Clay, adobe, bronze, or iron, along with countless pigments and combinations, emerge from a theory that the ceramist refers to as her own geology.
She paints and glazes surfaces and fires her objects multiple times, transforming raw materials into thoughtful artisanal expressions that merge seamlessly with contemporary life.
